ABOUT DR. BURKE / PHILOSOPHY

Dr. Burke’s passion and life purpose is to connect with others in a way that fosters personal growth and discovery. It is through our experiences that we develop beliefs about ourselves and sometimes these experiences foster false beliefs that we need to untangle to find life purpose and meaning. It is not uncommon for many of us to put on a mask in order to face the world. However, this becomes a lonely place full of fear and doubt. If you are wanting something different for your life, Dr. Burke, with her intuitive guidance and training as a health and wellness coach can help you get there by providing the support you need to make the transformational journey of self care and living life with joy. See Healthy Habits for Healthy Living.

Our children are everything. They are the expression of our love and the hope for our future. In today’s times there is often a disconnect between the skills they need, academic, social, and emotional and the capacity to teach them in a way that builds self efficacy and intrinsic motivation. Dr. Burke bridges this gap with a unique approach that is individualized to the needs of each child. Utilizing a coaching model when working with students, Dr. Burke focuses on teaching skills including perspective taking, emotional intelligence, executive functioning, and problem solving while creating positive experiences where the child can develop a stronger sense of self, identify their strengths and find their voice. How an adult interacts with a child serves as a mirror of how they see themselves and is core to building their confidence needed for tenacity and perseverance. See The C.U.B.E. Approach .

Dr. Burke’s sixteen years experience as a Special Education teacher in California and Texas provides first hand perspective in understanding the various needs of students in the school setting.  Primarily supporting students with autism and social challenges in the inclusion setting, Dr. Burke has a clear understanding of what the academic demands are and how the impact of low social and emotional regulation skills can affect the school experience. Enhancing her instruction with Social Thinking methodology is foundational for providing a cognitive behavior approach to building social competencies. See Social Cognition Coach for students with autism.

Dr. Burke brings her expertise and availability to family systems seeking assistance and guidance for their child. She is knowledgeable about the IEP process and developing goals and monitoring student progress. Most importantly is her philosophy of recognizing the value and unique contributions each child brings and her role as a coach in helping to encourage their strengths while developing the skills they need.  She values partnering with families in supporting their child in a way that aligns with their core values and desires for their child.Credentialed Special Education Teacher in California and Texas.

Dr. Burke's REFLECTION JOURNAL is a tool she created to help children develop perspecitve taking, self monitor their behaviors and build social competencies using pictures to reflect on their experiences.

In addition to utilizing this tool when working with her students for twelve plus years, the Reflection Journal was a key component utilized in her action research, "The Benefit of a Social Learning Intervention to Increase Self-Efficacy, Engagement and Social Inclusion for Students with Autism" (Burke, 2020).
